Initial sampling...
Hi guys! Lilla and I have been busy bees this afternoon doing some initial colour palette work and some sampling on the tanaka and the tufting machine- they are only the bases so far but we are going to take them home and do some hand embroidery on them- and i will bring them with me tomorrow to your pattern cutting class so you can see them in the flesh!
We took the colour palette from the images of the beautiful Horniman birds- specifically the beige and grey underfeathers poking through the more vibrant irridescent ones on top.
They are done with wool tops, silk tops and torn up pieces of felt on calico and felt. We thought these types of basic (quick) and flat embroideries would make good backgrounds for the hand embroidery and foil printing to build up on.
We have also been experimenting with the tufting machine in relation to the masks idea- it would be easy to build up thick layers of tufting if we were still wanting to create those pom-pom masks and bring them across the face- lots of ideas have been coming out!

Hi, I think if we want to create the feeling of the birds feathers, better use silk. silk is more smooth nd shining.but i dont know if the machine could deal with it:) anyway i like your pics! mimi xxx
ReplyDeleteyes we could try silk, too! the tanaka goes very well with the tufting! nice:) (Lilla)
